The future of Hospital Optometry in the Republic – could Northern Ireland provide a template?
The HSE has finally started to employ a very small number of optometrists in hospitals in Ireland. The expectation is that this number will expand. DIT Adjunct Professor Jonathan Jackson, senior hospital optometrist with the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast will give a talk in DIT on his own journey from being the very first hospital optometrist in Northern Ireland, to now being in charge of 35 hospital optometrists in Belfast alone. Professor Jackson is passionate about hospital optometry and will describe what he sees as possible avenues to expand this area of the profession in the Republic. His own areas of interest are paediatric low vision and speciality contact lenses.
Venue: DIT, Kevin Street
Time and date: 7pm on Tuesday November 20th
