Who we are

The IADO was formed on 24th February 1956 shortly after the formation of the Opticians Act. The objective of the Association was to represent Dispensing Opticians and to provide them with training. The Association continues to provide CPD to it’s members and to represent them at Optical conferences and in meetings with government bodies.

The Association is entirely run by a committee of volunteers. Without them the Association would not exist. Currently the President is Jill Flaherty and the Vice President is Ruth Drennan . If you would like to get involved with helping the committee please contact us by emailing membership@iado.ie.

Benefits of membership

Negotiating on your behalf

The committee have represented the IADO in talks with the Department of Health and CORU and will continue to when the need arrives.

Personal Indemnity Insurance

IADO has secured a policy with AIC insurance for IADO members only. We would advise all members to clarify their current status as regards professional indemnity. Do not assume you are covered.

For more information please contact Terry Duffy at Glennon AIC on 01-6191101

Email Message Service

All members will be emailed about job opportunities and IADO events. If you have a job vacancy or are looking for work, please let us know.

Networking

Being a member of the IADO gives us all an opportunity to meet other Dispensing Opticians through the Association’s events, starting new friendships and professional connections.

CPD Events
The IADO provides CPD in person and online.

Inclusive Organisation
The AGM gives you a chance to give your ideas of how you would like your Association to be organised. As we are a small organisation the AGM is quite informal and everyone is made to feel welcome and given the opportunity to speak.

If you would like to become a member please email membership@iado.ie.

Student membership is free so if you are a student let us know what course you are on and what year.
